Erik Pepping Training Day Review

On Friday, 3 April 1998 the SACUG was pleased to host a training session on the use of Clarion with Client/Server technology - principally SQL. This training was given by Erik Pepping who is the Technical Director of Extensie BV, a software house in The Netherlands.

Erik's particular favourite SQL is Oracle of which he is more than a 10 year veteran. It seems that this is no accident and Erik was able to skillfully demostrate how Oracle maintains its reputation as perhaps the worlds finest SQL database engine. Nonetheless, he paid great heed to the use of most popular SQL engines as he guided us through the pros & cons of using SQL client/server with Clarion and the subtle differences between Clarion for Windows v2 and Clarion v4 ABC.

Most attendees at the course had not had exposure to this sort of technology before and it certainly opened their eyes to the power of Clarion using this technology, the sort of pitfalls to watch out for, and the knowledge to embrace a whole new range of potential customers that were hitherto out of reach.

The SACUG wishes to acknowledge that Erik essetially provided this opportunity to us at no charge (except travel) and we sincerely thank him for that. We hope that he and Cecelia enjoyed their short visit to Adelaide and that we'll see them here again some time.
